I’ve read many a mythos collection and they’ve all been pretty bad. This one turns out not to be a stinker, but it is pretty bland. The stories are all relatively decent, though many of they are as Lovecraftian as… Conan the Barbarian. Anything is better than Derleth, I guess.
There is not one but two stories about Antarctica, both are quite dull and generic. The closer story is a piece of shit as are some trite pieces in the middle. A only interesting one is about Leng, which is actually a real horror story and not some relationship counseling piece like the rest. One about a buried church is ok too, but kind of short. The worst story takes place in Bobst library, which haunts my dreams. This story is so unbelievably bad, no doubt written by some pretentious NYU student.
