I am not sure what is going on with M. Night Shyamalan, but his movies are just getting worse and worse with each new release. Firstly, “The Happening” ??? Really, that is the best name you can come up with? Really. /facepalm.
I want to make a witty comment here about some bad movie titles but I can’t think of a worse title than “The Happening”. It just feels morally wrong to prepend THE to HAPPENING FFS. GAH. Somewhere, an English teacher is committing suicide at 8:30 in the morning.
Mark Wahlberg’s acting is unbearable in this movie. He’s usually “meh” but the strange, high pitched, patronizing voice he speaks in through out this movie is just terribad. In fact, not one actor in this movie is convincing in their role. Listen pal, if you came up to my farm/shed/fortress talking like that I’d probably shoot you too, terrorist. Zoey Sister of Bones is no better, she sleep walks through the whole movie making cute faces and acting like people killing themselves is every day fodder.
Whoever wrote the dialogue for this movie needs to get a emotion chip. The characters and their relationships are so contrived and shallow and just utterly retarded. Wah, wah we have to protect the little retarded girl, but screw these other kids! Despite mass suicides no one really seems to be very scared, they just run around like sheep herds getting slowly thinned out by the incredibly lame “monster” who of course, never touches the main characters for no good reason.
The premise of the film revolves around how we can never understand an act of nature. Are you fucking serious?! Apparently to Shyamalan nature is supernatural and out to get you. It’s all so mysterious, ooooOOOOoooOOOo. Here’s an explanation for you: “plants hate your guts and want to kill you.” There, I explained nature.
